The HOPS activity scheme for Children with Disabilities, has recently held its Volunteer Awards Presentation evening and AGM. This evening celebrates the achievements of those who attend the scheme and recognises those who do over and above what is expected.

Congratulations go to Sophie Jones and Ryan Frost who won the outstanding Volunteer Awards for 2010.

The charity based at the Kerrison Centre in Thorndon provides activities for children and young people with a physical, learning and sensory disability between the ages of 4 and 16 years old.  Activities take place during the school holidays and two Saturdays each month.  The activities help improve communication skills, independence and reduce Isolation. Promoting fun , enjoyment and social interaction.  It also provides respite for carers.
HOPS wouldn’t be able to run without the support of young volunteers who have the energy to keep up with the children all day long. The volunteers tell us ” although it’s a tiring day, it’s great fun and very rewarding”

HOPS has a team of 70 Volunteers, there are at least 30 young volunteers on site everyday supporting the children and helping the Play leaders to ensure the children have fun packed days at the scheme.

During the main scheme in 2010, HOPS young volunteers gave a staggering 4640 hours of their time free to support children with disabilities.

HOPS Trustees would like to thank everyone for their support in 2010..
